What We Do

Make a difference

Our member volunteers manage a variety of programs to benefit underserved populations in the St. Louis metropolitan region.  Each program has a unique delivery model and focus. We provide everything a child needs to wear to do well in school, athletic shoes and socks, personal care items for women and children in shelters, books for aspiring readers, and items to help families through tough times when they can't find help elsewhere.

Sandy Brody Elected President of Assistance League

Sandy Brody was elected president of Assistance League of St. Louis (ALSTL) for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Brody has been a member of ALSTL since 2016 and served on the board and in other leadership roles for the organization.

“I first became interested in Assistance League when they delivered winter jackets to one of my schools in Missouri,” Brody said. She worked as an elementary school teacher and school administrator for 31 years in Kansas, Missouri and Nevada.

She was impressed that ALSTL provided essential items to students who live in vulnerable zip codes, using volunteers to deliver services.
Brody says that her top priority for the coming year is to implement the newly adopted Strategic Plan for 2025-2029.

Brody has a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from the University of Southern Colorado, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Kansas and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

ALSTL is a volunteer nonprofit organization that has been serving the St. Louis region since 1987, working with school districts and other partners to invest in student success and support families in crisis through five community programs.

Help Us Serve Tornado Victims!

Recently, our Outreach Program volunteers reviewed an unprecedented 30 emergency cases of families in crisis.  Many of these cases are referred to us by St. Louis Public Schools social workers. These are children displaced by tornadoes, entering foster care, or transitioning from shelters—kids without beds and families without basics.

We don’t just deliver essentials—we deliver dignity and hope to families working to rebuild their lives.

Our Outreach Program provides:

  • New beds and bedding
  • Comfort items for every child, including siblings
  • Personalized touches—favorite books, characters, and more

We sent out an email to our Assistance League of St. Louis members. They stepped up fast—but the need is bigger than us.  We're asking our friends and supporters to consider giving if you can.  Together, we can give local families a soft place to land.
