Operation School Bell®
Operation School Bell® provides new school uniforms, shoes, socks, personal care items, belts, hats and an age-appropriate book to students in St. Louis area elementary schools. Operation School Bell also supports AL's Closet to provide year-round clothing, coats and other necessities.
Outfitting Students for Success
Clean, new, well-fitting school uniform clothing and shoes help boost students’ confidence and academic engagement.
- Our volunteer members will visit 60 schools in St. Louis City and County this school year to measure children for uniform clothing and supportive athletic shoes.
- Each student receives 2 pairs of pants, 2 short-sleeve shirts, 1 long-sleeve shirt, 1 fleece jacket, 6 pair of socks, a 6 pack of underwear, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a hat and gloves, a belt and a new book.
- Once the measurements are complete, another group of volunteers at our Headquarters lovingly pack a new duffel bag with the items. The students may keep these duffel bags for their own use.
- Assistance League maintains 34 "AL Closets” in St. Louis Public schools. The closet contains new school uniforms, coats, underwear, socks, hats, gloves and toiletry items to meet students’ ongoing needs throughout the school year.
- Recognizing that shoes are an essential to daily activity, our volunteers also measure the children’s feet for supportive athletic shoes and give them an opportunity to choose from a variety of shoes. The shoes are then ordered and are delivered to the school within a few weeks.
