What We Do

Make a difference

Our member volunteers manage a variety of programs to benefit underserved populations in the St. Louis metropolitan region.  Each program has a unique delivery model and focus, from new school uniforms to shoes and socks, and from personal care items for crisis shelter clients to teddy bears for comfort.

Assistance League of St. Louis Names Jane Harbron President

Jane Harbron president of Assistance League of St. Louis 2019 2020Assistance League of St. Louis has named Jane Harbron its president for the 2019-2020 term. In 2009, after a 35-year career at IBM as Consulting Partner and Sales Executive, Jane joined Assistance League of St. Louis—an organization that for more than 30 years has responded to the unmet needs of tens of thousands of St. Louisans.

In the past decade, Jane has assumed several leadership positions, including Vice Chair and Chair of one of two major fundraisers for the organization, Vice President Fund Development (and Grant Writer), Chairman of Information Technology, President-elect and President in 2015-2016. As president then, she championed the organization’s first Discovery Day at the Saint Louis Zoo—now an annual tradition when 60 Assistance League volunteers bring more than 120 deserving children to a local venue for new athletic shoes and socks, new books, activities and healthy lunches.

A Magical Mystery Tea

2019 04 13 authors brunch two lovely ladies in black and whiteOn Saturday, April 13, Mr. Charles Finch, internationally acclaimed author of 12 murder mystery books set in the Victorian/Edwardian era, captivated a sold-out audience of 400 with his many tales of life in mid-19th century England.  

Held at the beautiful Atrium of Edward Jones in Des Peres this 14th annual Authors Brunch event sponsored by Assistance League of St. Louis featured A Magical Mystery Tea that recreated the atmosphere of that timeframe. 

Guests were treated to a typical English tea complete with scones, dainty finger sandwiches and fancy pastries in beautiful table settings, which included Victorian teapot-centerpieces.  Many guests wore veiled hats and bustled gowns adding to the overall Victorian aura.
