Chesterfield Chamber Nora Amato and Kay WeeksChesterfield Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Nora Amato presented a check for $525 to Assistance League of St. Louis member Kay Weeks at their November 19 meeting.

The check represents a portion of the proceeds from the 24th annual Gumbo Flats Pumpkin Run. This is the fifth consecutive year that ALSTL has been a beneficiary of the event. The funds will benefit the five ALSTL community programs that assist elementary school students and families in crisis.

This year’s run was held on October 18. There were 613 walkers/runners for the 5K run, with 17 members from ALSTL Books from Friends team, who wore character costumes from children’s books. Other participants enjoyed seeing the characters, such as Waldo, Barbie, Minnie Mouse, a slice of pizza, a pirate, and more.

“We chose Assistance League as the benefitting charity because they truly embody the spirit of community. They do incredible work supporting local families, actively help promote the Pumpkin Run, and always show up in costumes, making the day even more fun for kids and adults alike,” said Chamber Assistant Director Krysta Hartbeck.

The weather wasn’t cold, and everyone finished their walks or runs before the storms arrived,” said Jayne Foley, ALSTL Public Relations chair.

ALSTL President Sandy Brody said it was an honor to be chosen again as a beneficiary of the event. “The donation will support our programs that enhance student success and help women and families in crisis. We love being part of the Pumpkin Run.”
